Rebecca started the group in the summer of 2008. Previously, she sang with Boston University's all-female Chordially Yours and served as Business Manager for three years. Rebecca has a BS in Public Relations and works on the HubSpot marketing team.

J. Michael Spencer
Bass, Music Director
Michael grew up in Quincy, MA before attending Hartwick College studying Theatre and Computer Science. When not singing bass for Common Sound, Michael lives in Somerville and works in Boston as a data analyst.

Evan Malkiewich
Tenor
Evan is part of Common Sound’s initiative to help very tall people lead normal lives. Evan first fell in love with vocal music while singing with the Notre Dame Glee Club. Since then, he has played guitar in his room and wondered when he might be called to take the stage again.

Caroline Murphy
Soprano
Caroline has been singing in front of an audience since before she can remember, to the point where her mother had to institute a "no singing at the dinner table" rule. After college she worked as a music teacher where she learned to play 14 instruments in addition to her primary instrument, violin. More recently, she earned her MBA from Babson, and works as a game designer and manager in the video games industry. She is also the geekiest chick we have ever met- no lie.

Tanya Austin
Alto/Soprano
Tanya's a cappella career began at the tender age of 3 when she brought the house down with a stirring rendition of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," (in multi-part harmony!) and has since progressed to include stints with Harvard Law School's Scales of Justice and the lovely ladies of the Copley Cats. A Boston attorney who dabbles in pastry in her spare time, Tanya currently sings Soprano/Alto with Common Sound.

Judith Garber

Judith is extremely excited to be singing with Common Sound! A newcomer to Boston, Judith recently moved to the city from New Jersey to pursue a career in publishing. She previously sang with Kol Halayla, Rutgers' Jewish a capella group. Besides singing, Judith's favorite pastime is playing ultimate frisbee.

Brendan McCann

Brendan is a recent grad from Assumption College where he majored in Mathematics, singing for four years with both the Offbeats and VOCE. An avid sports fan, he currently works as a SQA Engineer for a catastrophe modeling company.

Andrew B. Nilsen

Everyday when he takes his morning shower before work, he believes he is a different vocalist... yesterday, to his roommate's dismay, he attempted James Blunt. However, when he comes to Common Sound, he is Andrew Nilsen. Andrew works in sales for the analyst firm, TowerGroup and is a graduate of Miami (OH).Prior to college, Andrew was a member of The Rice Street Singers, a Jazz Choir at Wellesley High School.
